Just recently Cisco Records in Shibuya shut its three shops specialising in dance music; as well, three other dance music specialist shops also closed.
More DJs are dispensing with vinyl & cds, going digital with lap tops using software, such as Traktor, and downloanding the latest grooves from on-line shops.
DJ gear manufacturers and their retailers are feeling the pinch, besides traditional record shops. Punters are buying their music via on-line shops to be played directly off their puter or iPod.
Record labels are having to reformat their model of artist/marketing relationship. It is estimated that illegal downloads of all music on the net outnumber bought music 20 to 1.
